Cabinet meet on Manipur Panchayati Raj amemdment ordinance

IMPHAL, May 7: The state cabinet is likely to meet on May 11 to consider a proposal from the Rural Development and Panchayati Raj department and the Law department regarding an Ordinance to amend the Manipur Panchayati Raj 1994.

According to a source, four Gram Sabhas of the Sadar Hills area were not included during the election of the Autonomous District Council, and as such the state is considering inclusion of the four Gram Sabhas back into the Panchayati election which is slated to be held later this year.

The four Gram Sabhas are the Koubru Lekha gram Sabha, Toribari Gram Sabha, Kalapahar Gram Sabha and Santalbari Gram Sabha, the source added.

The present term of the Gram Sabhas end on October 23, 2012.
