IMPHAL, May 30: Even as the race to the country’s Presidential seat heats up, some former state ministers recommended the name of former Nagaland Chief Minister and former Governor of Maharashtra SC Jamir for the post of President to Sonia Gandhi.
The recommendation has been made in a letter to the UPA chairperson signed by former Minister RV Mingthing, former Minister RK Thekho, former MPCC president and former Finance Minister L Lalit and retd Comdt AR, RS Jassal.
They have said in their recommendation letter that some leaders of the North East had interacted with them and during the said interaction, they had zeroed in on SC Jamir for his achievements, qualities and personal traits.
The letter concludes with the explanation, “There has never been any opportunity afforded to a person of Mongoloid origin to such an exalted prestigious office. SC Jamir is a very well deserving personality to be honoured. This is our plea. It will also bring NE into centre-stage from periphery.”
