IMPHAL, May 30: The Manipur People’s Party is likely to take up necessary steps for the formation of a party’s adhoc committee which consists of a president in the wake of resignation by its president Dr Nimaichand Luwang from the post.

A meeting of the party’s Central Committee on the creation of the proposed adhoc committee is likely to be held on June 4 at its office, party sources said.

However, there is no provision in the party’s constitution which allows the Central Committee to elect a full-time president who holds the post for three years. The MPP president is elected by the party’s general body meeting, also known as Party Conference.

The constitution of the adhoc committee had become necessary as more time will be needed in organizing the Party Conference. Besides the post of the president cannot be kept vacant as per the party’s constitution, the sources said.
