IMPHAL, May 2: Top officials of the Power department has asked the state Cabinet for 3 months time to improve the power supply situation all over the state, according to a cabinet minister.
Talking to IFP the minister said, the dismal power scenario was discussed today at the Cabinet meeting held today at the CM Secretariate in the miscellaneous agenda.
Several ministers expressed their concern over public dissatisfaction with the power supply, to which the officials of the department assured immediate action to improve the situation.
The meeting was attended among others by the Commissioner LP Gonmei, IAS and Chief Engineer (Power) N Sarat Singh.
The cabinet meeting also approved the Manipur Parliamentary Secretaries (Salaries and Allowances) Ordinance 2012, which will subsequently be put up to the state Governor for proclamation.
The proposed Ordinance did not specify the number of Parliamentary Secretaries to be appointed. But, there may be a few to soothe hurt feelings among the Congress MLAs who did not find a berth in the recently expanded Okram Ibobi led ministry.
Insider sources said, the Congress party did not expect the 40 plus strength in the present assembly, and it had posed serious problems while determining the criteria for inclusion in the ministry.
Today’s cabinet meeting was chaired by the Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh.
Parliamentary secretaries are appointed in all the North East states and so the Ordinance needs to be proclaimed, added the minister.
Meanwhile, the Home Minister Gaikhangam informed cabinet ministers that it has resolved to send an officer not below the rank of a superintendent of police to Karnataka to take a full report of the case regarding the alleged murder of Loitam Richard, a second semester student of the Acharya NRV School of Architecture in Bangalore who was found dead on his hostel bed on the afternoon of April 18.
