UKHRUL, May 2: The Tanghul Mayar Ngala Long, TMNL (Tangkhul Youth Council) today reduced to ashes several edible items and other commodities which were found on sale past their expiry date at Ukhrul.

The items which were collected from around 28 shops located across the Ukhrul town were worth about Rs 50000 and included juice, cooking oil, chips, spray, masala, soaps, tea leaves, hair oil, biscuits, facial creams, etc.

According to the TMNL president Ningkhan AS, the campaign was carried since April 27 under the banner, “Free and Clean public Consumption goods”.

The TMNL has strongly warned the shops owners to strictly maintain the respective shops vouchers (Cash Memos) while dealing with customers and further directed them to furnish immediate information to the youth body in case there is arrival of any expired goods in the future.

The youth council has further appealed to the general public/consumers in the district to always avail the respective goods vouchers (Cash memos) during every purchase of goods to ensure their own safety and in pursuit of consumers rights.

The ceased goods were set on fire before the public, social organizations and media persons near the Tangkhul Naga Long office, the Ukhrul Forest Office and the electricity office.

The TMNL further imposed precautionary warning fines to the shop owners.

The youth president also informed that the campaign was carried out on April 27, 28, 30 and May 1 and will continue to do so.
