IMPHAL, May 30: A woman Sub-Inspector of the CISF today alleged that state police commandos assaulted her without any reason.

The woman is a non-Manipuri married to a local who is also a CISF havildar. Both are presently posted at the Oil Depot, Buriyazan, Dibrugarh, Assam.

The incident happened about half a km away from a road blockade against the arrest of one Ngangom James from Kangvai Bazar on May 29 by 27 Sector Assam Rifles, E Company posted at Peace Ground, Churachandpur.

The CISF officer identified as Indu, 44 wife of Khumukcham Ibomcha of Torbung Sabal Leikai, Kangvai village under Bishnupur district alleged that she along with her husband was waiting for her brother-in-law’s son to return from his lower primary school.

She briefed media persons this late evening on the issue.

The Bishnupur police commandos attached with the Moirang PS arrived and started assaulting her husband without any confrontation, she told media persons.

The commandos had questioned them about why they were standing there and without waiting for an answer started assaulting her husband.

When she tried to intervene, the police commandos also physically assaulted her, she continued.

The commandos also blank fired a round after the assault, she further alleged.

Questioning the police commandos’ act, she decried that assaulting a woman by police personnel in the absence of women personnel is against the law.

She further expressed that being a non-Manipuri, it is a shame for the state police commandos to act in such manner and added she will seek justice against the erring commandos.

Questioning the presence of law and order in the state, she lamented that even though she herself belongs to one of the security forces she has never come across such high-handedness anywhere else.

She also expressed her fear in staying further in the state and further expressed unhappiness over her inability to find the DC and SP, Churachandpur at their respective offices when she had gone to complain about the incident.
