Dimapur corps commander visits Manipur

IMPHAL, June 29: Lt Gen AK Sahni, SM, VSM, General Officer Commanding 3 Corps, after taking over command of the Dimapur Corps, arrived at Leimakhong yesterday on a two day maiden visit to Manipur State. 

The General Officer was received by Major General Binoy Poonnen,VSM, GOC Red Shield Division and briefed on various emerging security/insurgency related issues. 

Thereafter on June 29, the General Officer visited Mantripukhri where he was received by Major General UK Gurung, IG IGAR(S) and updated on the prevailing security situation in the State.

Lt Gen AK Sahni, SM, VSM along with IG IGAR (S) and GOC Red Shield Division also called on Gurbachan Jagat, Governor of Manipur and O Ibobi Singh, CM, Manipur.  The visiting General Officer lauded the efforts of the soldiers in combating terrorism in the State and urged them to continue the good work in a professional manner.

Lt Gen AK Sahni also visited Disha Boys Home at Leimakhong today.

Disha is a Military Civic Action project of Red Shield Division, run by Manipur Terriers, which houses 25 bright children from the economically backward families of Manipur. These boys have been selected with absolute transparency from hundreds of names that were sponsored from all over the State. 

Lt Gen AK Sahni, SM, VSM during his visit to Disha remarked that Disha is a pioneering noble venture in Manipur by the Army which caters for upliftment of bright children from the weaker sections of the society.  He expressed his confidence that this endeavor will be a remarkable milestone in the annals of Manipur’s history and the Army’s efforts towards putting smiles on the faces of children who pass through the portals of this lofty institute.  It is indeed a proud moment for our Army and Spear Corps, Red Shield Division and Manipur Terriers to make this humble contribution for the Manipuri society.
