IMPHAL, June 29: A one day joint meeting on the issue of Mapithel Dam was held at Thoyee/Thawai village, Ukhrul district, under PS Litan today.
The meeting was organized by the Mapithel Dam Affected Villages Organization (MDAVO) and attended by representatives of All Naga Students Association, ANSAM, Tangkhul Naga Long, TNL, Naga Women Union Manipur, NWUM, Tangkhul Naga Aze Longphang, TNAL, Tangkhul Aze Katamnao Long, TAKL, and representatives of the Mapithel Dam affected villagers.
In the meeting it was noted that the issue of Mapithel Dam has become a serious matter with threat to the life of tribals living in the affected area.
It was further decided that the matter need to be considered seriously by representatives of various organizations and that the Expert Review Committee set up by the Government of Manipur shouldn’t be a mockery.
It further called upon the government to consider the issue lest the people have to resort to all available means of agitation.
