3 including infant injured in bomb blast


IMPHAL, July 8: Three persons including a seven month old infant and her mother were injured during a blast at the residence of Khurai Kongpal Laishram Leikai Gram Panchayat Pradhan, Yendrembam Jiten around 9:20pm.

The three have been identified as Yendrembam (o) Ashalata, 29 wife of Premjit (cousin brother of the pradhan) and her infant daughter Tania and Yendrembam Robita alias Echan, 27 daughter of Y Naba.

The incident happened this late evening when the two women were sitting at their verandah along with the infant after having their dinner.

Police said, unidentified persons lobbed a hand grenade which exploded at the courtyard of the extended family injuring all the three with splinters.

Ashalata was injured on her left calf, baby Tania on her left arm while Robita suffered multiple injuries.

A Hyundai I10 car bearing regd no AS 01/AL 0645 was also damaged by splinters. the glasses of the back door windows were broken by the explosion. Both rear tyres were also damaged by the explosion.

The three injured including the infant are presently undergoing treatment at JNIMS.

Speaking to media persons, the family members said there have been no previous threats or monetary demands from any group or individual.

The family members have also urged all concern to clarify on the grenade attack.
