Manipur: Assam Rifles IGAR (S) accomplished yet another feat in ensuring peace and prosperity of Manipur when it convinced a total of 72 hardcore UGs of the State to surrender unconditionally in front of the Chief Minister, Mr O Ibobi Singh in a simple yet remarkable Home Coming Ceremony organized by HQ IGAR (S) at Mantripukhri.
The terrorists belonged to the proscribed outfits of UNLF, PLA, KCP, KYKL, PREPAK, KNLF, MNRF and PULF. Large number of weapons including AK-47s, G3 Rifles, Lathode, Carbines and Pistols were surrendered.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister stated that peace and freedom from crime and terrorism are the catalysts for progress and development. He also congratulated the surrenderees for having taken the right decision to change their path towards peace and normalcy.
Further elaborating on the occasion, the CM applauded the role of the Assam Rifles in facilitating the surrender and helping the misguided youth of Manipur through various rehabilitation programs. The event marked the progressive approach of undergrounds towards building a prosperous Manipur thus aiding the nation building.
It is evident from such large numbers of surrenders that the people of the State abhor violence and are desirous of leading a peaceful and prosperous life. While Manipur has been facing the scourge of terrorism for the past several decades, it is the general public who are bearing the burnt of problems due to the presence of such militant outfits who indulge in senseless killings, extortion & anti social activities. The surrenderees and specially their family members who were carried away by emotions conveyed their sincere thanks to Assam Rifles for guiding them towards the right path and giving them the opportunity to join the main stream.
