Families accept slain KNA cadres

IMPHAL, July 2: Police have established the identities of four cadres of a KNA faction who were reportedly gunned down by troops of 44 Assam Rifles yesterday.

The four cadres were reportedly killed during a gunbattlle with troops of 44 AR at the village of Phaikoh about 35 km east of Ukhrul district’s Chachad Police Station.

They have been identified as Thangboy Mate, 23, son of Tongmang Mate of Monjang village, Chandel district, Lungam Haokip, 42, son of Lunkhomang of Lancha village, Ukhrul district, Jamkhojang Haokip, 31, son of Henkhomang of Phungtha village, Ukhrul district and Mangtilen Haokip, 25, son of Lankhotong of Mongjang village, Churachandpur district.

The bodies have been claimed by their respective families after conducting autopsy at RIMS mortuary.

Meanwhile, the families of the village of Sihai today took away three bodies that were killed in a violent clash that took place at Phangrei village of Ukhrul district on June 30 last.

The bodies were conducted post mortem at RIMS mortuary and later handed over to the families.

However, the bodies will be kept at Ukhrul district Police Station and buried tomorrow, police sources said.

Yet another body of a man, who was reportedly shot dead by unidentified gunmen at Nongpok Sekmai Utubi Loukon under Yairipok Police Station on June 28, has been identified Monday.

The man who was a resident of Awang Khunou Lamkhai under Patsoi Police Station has been identified as Khumathem Sunil alias Nanao, 29, son of late Shamu.

According to his family, Sunil had been in jail after he was arrested by police from Jiribam on March 28 this year. But Sunil was later released from the jail in May and thereafter he started to work as a driver.

He had gone missing since June 24 after he reportedly gave some money to his brother for ‘marup.’

Sunil was a father of one but his wife had been divorced a couple of year ago. Surprisingly, Sunil was nabbed by the police when he eloped with his wife’s sister.

The body was conducted autopsy at JNIMS mortuary and handed over to the family.
