IMPHAL, July 5: Voicing strongly for a disturbance free education in the state, the teachers and students present at the observation of 5th Demand Day for Disturbance Free Education decried the acts of both state and non-state actors for hampering the education sector of the state.
The observation was organized by the Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) today at the Centenary Hall of Manipur University, Canchipur.
Dean, School of Human and Environmental Sciences of Manipur University Prof W Nabakumar, Manipur University Teachers’ Association President Prof M Dhaneshwor, Kuki Students’ Organization President Peter Mate, Zeliangrong Students’ Union (Assam, Manipur and Nagaland) President Pamei Tingenlung, and Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur President W Islauddin attended the observation as the presidium members.
Speaking at the observation function, Prof Nabakumar emphasized on education as the backbone of a country’s development in terms of capital formation.
He stated that all stakeholders of education namely teachers, students and guardians should be responsible in creating a disturbance free education in the state. The government should look into the welfare of both teachers and students with a firm commitment to bring a real change through education.
Delivering the keynote address, vice-president of DESAM, M Angamba maintained that the education sector of the state has been inflicted by various anti-social elements. Even the revolutionary groups pose serious threats to the education sector of the state. Extortions from schools and other educational institutions is a serious offence against quality education in the state, he noted.
Angamba also decried the flip-flop transfer and posting policy of the state government teachers. The wrong policies of the state government have greatly affected the education sector of the state, he asserted.
Further, he questioned if any underground outfit is working sincerely for the upliftment of educaton in the state rather than extorting money from schools and colleges. Even Naxalites and Maoists give utmost priority to education, the vice-president averred.
