Govt to facilitate banks in hills

IMPHAL, July 11: The leader of the House, Okram Ibobi in clarification to cut motions raised in the House regarding Government departments mentioned that certain corrective and developmental steps are underway for the convenience of the public with regard to the banking sector.

He said that the hill people has a serious handicap in addressing the banking sector, `The absence of banking consultation service in the hill is a serious issue`, he said that the government under the SPA has allocated Rs 80 crore for development of the SDO/BDO offices so that with proper infrastructure, the banks can be attached and open their offices at the safe location.

He mentioned that the Liquor prohibition act is further stressed on by the government and the stern actions are getting revenue for the state. There is also process to set up a taxation check post at Mao and Jiribam and 70 crore is earmarked for the projects. Due to unavailability of land at Mao, the location is still not being fixed yet.

To address the woes incurred by pensioners, the government is going to solve the problem by giving all benefit due to the retired persons at one time.

He clarified that there has been less misappropriation of funds as the MGEL list has checked the loopholes as compared to earlier times.

He said that there is no issue of diverting funds to the state Finance Department but funds have been deposited in the government count of 8443 and 8449 from Central sponsored schemes to avoid lapses.
