I/W team overall champion in state boxing

IMPHAL, July 19: The Imphal West boxing squad became the overall team champion of the State Level Boxing Championship, 2012 at the Khuman Lampak boxing arena.

The championship with 218 boxers from seven teams which commenced since July 14 concluded today.

The Imphal West team secured 25 Golds, 11 Silvers and five bronze with a total of 102 points to secure the top of the table.

Bishnupur team with 14 Golds, ten Silvers and 11 Bronze with a total 66 points secured the Runners’ Up team champion, while Imphal East which secure the same points as Bishnupur however with a lesser number of Golds became the Second Runners’ Up.

Imphal East players secured 13 Golds, 16 Silvers and ten bronze.

The Best Boxer of the championship was bagged by L Chinglensana Meitei of I/W (A-57) in the Sub Junior boys while M Netajijoy Singh, I/E of the same weight category was adjudged the Best Loser.

In the Sub Junior Girls’, H Mahe Devi, I/W (A-50) was adjudged the Best Boxer, while TS Merina Chiru of CCpur (A-48) was adjudged the Best Loser.

N Ashok Singh, I/W (49 kg) was adjudged the Best Boxer while K Oneithang Kom, CCpur of the same category was adjudged the Best Loser in the Junior Boys.

In the Junior Girls’ category, Ch Puspa Devi, I/W (57 kg) and P jayalaxmi, I/E (48 kg) were adjudged the Best Boxer and Best Loser respectively.

In the Senior Men’s category, G Dinesh Sharma, I/W (60 kg) and RK Allen Singh, I/E (49 kg) were adjudged the Best Boxer and Best Loser, respectively.

Meanwhile, In the Senior Women’s category, E Memthoi Devi, I/E (60 kg) and Y Sandhyarani, TBL (60 kg) were adjudged the Best Boxer and Best Loser, respectively.

Sh Barun Singh, Bpr (D-30 kg) and Th Yaisana Chanu, TBL (B-44 kg) were adjudged the Best Promising Boxers.

In today’s final bouts of the Sub-Junior boys, M Dayananda Meitei, I/W defeated L Nonglemba Singh, NSA in the D-38 kg; Myson Moirangthem, Bpr defeated A Temba Meitei, I/W in C-36 kg; Md Etash Khan, I/W defeated N Dipakumar Meitei, I/E in the C-44 kg; P Bijen Kumar Singh, Bpr defeated M Bigyananda Meitei, I/W in the B-42 kg while L Chinglensana Meitei, I/W defeated M Borish Meitei, NSA in the A-57 kg.

In the final bouts of the girls’ Sub Junior category, Kh Bidyarani Devi, I/W defeated Th Eliza Devi, Tbl in the D-36 kg; Kh Monika Devi, I/W defeated Ng Nuri Devi, I/E in the B-46 kg while, H Mahe Devi, I/W defeated Th Fancy Devi, Bpr in the A-50 kg.

While, in the final bouts of the Junior Girls’ played today, Y Sofiya Devi, I/W defeated P Jayaluxmi, I/E in 48 kg and Soniya Thingujam, CCpur defeated H Dayarani Devi, I/W in the 51 kg.

In the Senior Women’s final bouts, L jamuna Devi, I/W defeated Ph Sony Chanu, I/E in the 54 kg while, E Memthoi Devi, I/E defeated Y Sandhyarani, Tbl in the 60 kg.

S Suresh Singh, I/W defeated RK Allen Singh, I/E in the 49 kg while G Dinesh Sharma, I/W defeated T Rajeshwor Singh, Bpr in the 60 kg of the Men’s Senior final bouts played today.

The closing function of the championship was attended by Minister AK Mirabai Devi, MLA RK Imo Singh, Addl SP (ops) I/W Md Issac Shah, Dy Commandant, 143 Battalion CRPF, Lamphel K Haopu and MABA, patron member RK Gourakishor Singh as chief guest, president and guests of honour, respectively.

The championship is being organized by the Manipur Amateur Boxing Association.
