LAMKA, July 25: The Kuki National Army, KNA/KNO, yesterday organised the Martyr`s Day of those 167 cadres and leaders killed since 1990-2012 at its camp Hermon in a remote place of Chandel district yesterday.
The observation started from noon.
July 24 had been observed by the group in honour of its founder and commander in chief Thangkholun Haokip who had died on the day.
According to a source, the idea of observing the Martyrs day on July 24 was flouted by Vipin Kuki who was the 2nd in command at one of the KNA`s general assembly.
Meanwhile, speaking at the observation, home secretary of the organisation Anton Kuki said, he gave the highest respect to those who have laid down their lives for the cause of their land nation adding that they are doing this noble deeds for realization of the vision of leaders that if they don`t have a separate administration they will not be able to enjoy their rights and then live a meaningful life.
He pointed out the need for a reformed and retrospection of the leaders’ way of leading the people.
He continued that if it is not done then people will start criticising them.
He also consoled the family members of the dead cadres by assuring the fruits of their sacrifices will soon be borne.
UNA adds: The KNO was founded in the year 1988 and the KNA’s commander-in-chief Thangkholun Haokip went to Kachin to get guerrilla warfare training from Kachin Independent Army of Myanmar. Thangkholun was assassinated by rivals on July 24, 1992.
The martyrs’ day is observed every year on the day Thangkholun was killed.
The KNA is demanding separate Kuki states both in India and Myanmar.
Before signing the suspension of operation agreement KNA cadres carried out attacks on security forces both in Myanmar and Manipur.
