Karnataka CID yet to receive Richard`s PM Report from AIIMS

IMPHAL, July 21: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Karnataka Police is yet to receive the postmortem report of Richard Loitam which was sent to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi for reexamination.

Richard Loitam, a first-year architecture student of Archarya Institute of Technology, Bangalore, was found dead at his hostel room on April 18.

The IFP contacted Karnataka DGP Lalrokhuma Pachuau this afternoon but he told that the up-to-date report of Richard Loitam’s case was not with him.

Further, the SP of Karnataka Police CID Crime Branch, Rameschandran was contacted to know the progress in Richard’s case.

He told that the reexamined postmortem report from AIIMS has not been received so far. The report is eagerly awaited.

Madanayakanahali Police Station has already registered an FIR case regarding Richard’s case, however, the case was handed over to CID Crime Branch only on June 4.

Owing to the pending postmortem report, the police could not sort out the sections of law under which the accused can be framed.

Madanayakanahali Police Station had previously registered a case of unnatural death (Case No. UDR No. 24/2012) under section 174(III) CrPC, but it was later registered as FIR Case No. 229/12 under section 323, 302 r/w 34 of Indian Penal Code as per a formal report lodged by the warden of Acharya New Hostel S Sudhakar.

The postmortem reports of Richard Loitam were previously given by Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute of Victoria Hospital, Bangalore.

The post-mortem reports along with the lungs, kidneys, liver, spleen, skin, heart and half of brain were sent to AIIMS, New Delhi for further reexamination.
