Loumi Lup demands drought status

IMPHAL, July 18: Manipur Loumi Lup has demanded the state government to declare ‘drought status’ in the state in the wake of insufficient rainfall that has affected paddy plantation in all districts of the state.

A release of the Loumi Lup stated that the state is now in a drought-condition with no sufficient water for cultivation, however, the state government seems to take no notice of the sufferings of the farmers.

While lauding the government for making the urea fertilizers available at a subsidized rate, the farmers’ association questioned the utility of fertilizers when there is no water in the fields.

The Loumi Lup appealed to the agriculture department to work in the interest of the farmers who constitute more than 75 percent of the country’s population.
