IMPHAL, July 8: PHAM Imphal lifted the trophy in both men’s and women’s section of the 3rd Manipur State Level Men’s and Women’s Open Hockey Tournament 2012.
The best promising playerin both men’s and women’s section was also received by PHAM’s KshWangamba and A Geetarani.
NYC Nambulmapal Ahanthem Leikai took the Best Discipline Men’s team; SEYO Singjamei Kshetrileikai took the Best Discipline Women’s team.
The tournament was organized by Manipur Hockey at Khuman Lampak Hockey Stadium, which was commenced on June 17 concluded today.
In the women’s final match today, PHAM Imphal beat IDEAL Club Tera Bazar 7-1 goals, while in the men’s section PHAM beat 9-8 Youth Club LeirikyengbamLeikai with a penalty stroke.
The concluding ceremony was attended by H Deleep Singh, IAS, director of YAS, OlympianKshThoiba Singh, president, Manipur Hockey, Lt Col Shantikumar, CO of 14th Manipur Battalion NCC and T Nandababu Singh, Zilla Parishad Member of Laipham Khunou, Imphal East, as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively. They have also distributed the prizes of the tournament.
During the women’s final match between PHAM and Ideal Club, PHAM dominated the match and took the lead with 4-0 goal in the first half of the match. Later in the second half PHAM added three more goals and won the match, while Ideal Club was able to reply to only one goal.
ThAnuradha (21st/33rd/34th/69th minutes), ThRanjita (38th/70thminutes) and S Ibeni (26th minute) scored for PHAM. The lone of Ideal Club was scored by Raina in the 42nd minute of the match.
PHAM received 6 penalty corners while Ideal Club received only one penalty corner. But they were not able to convert the penalty corners into goals.
Meanwhile, in the men’s final match between PHAM and Youth Club, the match was decided by penalty stroke as both the teams were locked with 5-5 goals during the normal time.
PHAM took the lead in the first half by 4-1. During the second Youth Club pushing their limits, not only equalized the goals but took the lead by 5-4 and got the chance to be the champion. But at the ending part of the match PHAM equalized the goal.
KshWangamba (13th/68thminutes), N Bikram (28th/41st minutes) and KhRabikanta (34th minute) scored for PHAM during the normal time.
ChRishikanta (10thminute), ChUmakanta (51st minute), KhDhananjoy (54th minute), ThRomenkumar (57th minute) and L Sitaljoy (58th minute) scored for Youth Club during normal time.
Th Rohen, Kh Devkeshore, Kh Rabikanta and Ksh Wangamba scored for PHAM in penal stroke.
M Romenkumar, L Sitaljoy and KhDhananjoy scored for Youth Club in penalty stroke.
