IMPHAL, July 18: The alleged hijackers of a Tata DI vehicle from Nagaland, namely Thoudam Premkumar alias Ta Manao and Longjam Ibomcha who were handed over to Nagaland Police on June 14 at the insistence of Southern Angami Youth Organization (SAYO) are still at the custody of Nagaland Police.

In a telephonic conversation with IFP this afternoon, SP Kohima told that the accused Premkumar and Ibomcha are in the police custody, but the other two co-accused of the case are yet to be arrested.

Some misunderstandings between the Nagaland Police and Manipur Police while dealing with the hijacking case had incited the volunteers of Southern Angami Youth Organization (SAYO) to call 96-hour bandh on NH-2, but now the investigation is in full swing with cooperation from the Manipur Police, SP asserted.

Asked whether the Maruti car involved in the incident has been handed over to Nagaland Police or not, the SP maintained that there is no handing over of the car involved in the case.

He declined to comment further on the case as it is under investigation and two more co-accused are also yet to be arrested.

SP Kohima further appealed to all concerned not to create tensions between the two states regarding the hijacking case again.

It may be mentioned that the Tata DI from Nagaland was hijacked by four persons from Tadubi on June 21 and it was later recovered by Manipur Police on June 24.

The police also arrested the accused Thoudam Premkumar and Longjam Ibomcha in connection with the hijacking case but they were released on bail. However, the two accused were handed over to Nagaland Police along with the hijacked vehicle at the insistence of Southern Angami Youth Organization which has even called 96-hour bandh on NH-2 demanding the accused to be handed over to Nagaland.
