IMPHAL, August 21: Post initiative of the Education Minister M Okendo Singh to accommodate as many students as possible in three Government run higher secondary schools, complaints of non availability to teachers to attend classes have cropped up after commencement of the academic calendar.
Many classes have been cancelled due to the want of teaching staff at Tamphasana Girls’ Higher Secondary School located at Nityapat Chuthek, according to reports culled by IFP.
There are about two thousand students studying Arts, Science and Commerce at the institute. It was reported that there are insufficient teachers mainly for the subject of Home Science, Geography, Economics and Anthropology. There is one regular teacher for Home Science; two teachers are utilized to assist the regular lecturer. It is still not commensurate by three teachers to conduct classes for the subject which is common to both arts and science stream students.
Besides, there are only two part time lecturers for Economics and only one for Anthropology. The anthropology class witness frequent cuts and the matter has been complained by parents to the school administration.
As per instruction of the Education Minister, the school authorities had also submitted a list of experienced teachers attending private schools which can be utilized in the Higher Secondary school. There is still no response from the Minister in the regard, sources said.
Further, the school faces inadequacy of laboratory assistants as there is only one attendant for the science subjects. There is no assistant librarian for the library and the teachers are minding it on a roster system. The peon is also doing the work of a chowkidar and sweeper.
