IMPHAL, August 13: A bus carrying devotees on a worship trip turns turtle killing two women and injured 20 others at Auchiwa Mayai Lekai under Mayang Imphal police Station yesterday morning at around 9:45.
The devotees after meeting at Uripok Khoisnam Leikai started its worship trip for Wangu Tampha Lairembi at around 8:30 am. When the bus reached Auchiwa Mayai Leikai, while passing with an another vehicle its front and rear wheel felt into a pit hole dug for the installation of BSNL cable, lost control and felt into a fish farm near the road.
Those who received minor injuries in the accident were taken to Mayang Imphal PHC and those who received serious injuries were taken to RIMS and Sija Hospital.
Among the seriously injured, 10 persons were treated at RIMS. One of the injured woman died yesterday while the another woman died this morning at around 9:45 at RIMS.
The two women who were killed in the accident are Maisnam Akashini, 50, wife of (L) Manglem, a residence of Sagolband Kangabam Leikai and Maibam Monika, 27, daughter of Ibotombi, a residence of Heirangoi Thong Maibam Leikai.
The death bodies of the two deceased person were handed over to their family members after conducting a post mortem at RIMS.
