Dev photos draw large visitors at Wangoi

IMPHAL, Aug 1: Continuing the campaign for dissemination of information to the general public, a five-day photo exhibition on the theme ‘Development Initiatives in North East’ was set into motion Wednesday at Wangoi Higher Secondary School in Imphal West. The exhibition which would continue till August 5 is being organized by the Directorate of Advertising & Visual Publicity (DAVP), Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India, Imphal.

Inaugurating the programme as the chief guest, L Damodar Singh, Principal, Wangoi Higher Secondary School emphasized the need for feeding information about the various schemes of the Government to the general public. Saying that the Government is always trying to better the lives of its citizen, he noted the initiatives taken up by the Government of India such as Look East Policy and the conversion of Manipur University into Central University as well as instituting the Jawahar Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences.

He also acknowledged the good work of the Government such as Scholarships for poor and meritorious students. Inspired by the vast collection of photos, which he said was ‘very beautifully designed and meaningful exhibition’, the school principal maintains that photos acts as witnessed of the work done by the Government of India.

‘This photo exhibition gives us knowledge and information about the policies of the Government’, said P Chandrajini Devi, Retired Principal, who graced the function as Functional President. She also expressed her desired that the Government of Manipur may implement various programs as was implemented in other states. Chandrajini Devi also exhorted the students and public to seize the opportunity of the ‘attractive & informative’ photo exhibition to learn new things in life.

Speaking on the occasion, Th Manglemba Singh, Senior Teacher of Wangoi Hr Sec School, who attended as Guest of Honour, said that photo exhibition is the best platform to disseminate information about the various programs and policies of the Government of India. Manglemba narrated about various development schemes undertaken by the Government such as MGNREGS, NRHM, BRGF, JNURM, SSA, RMSA, Total Sanitation Campaign, etc for the benefit of the impressive gathering. Commenting that picture seldom lies, he stated that photos that were displayed reflect developmental projects undertaken by the Government of India.

Many students and outside visitors were seen thronging the exhibition hall to have a glance of the 120-odd photographs of the North East, including Sikkim. ‘I am happy to see such a beautiful place called North East’, said Bandana, a XIIth grader of TG Hr Sec School, Imphal. For Ch Runchi Devi, a graduate teacher of Wangoi Hr Sec School, the photo exhibition gives information about the various aspects and culture of the North East. Dr N Nilakanta Singh, Seniorr Lecturer of Wangoi Hr Sec School summed up succinctly as ‘This photo exhibition may enhance the knowledge of students & visitors about the North Eastern States’.

The inaugural program was well attended by large number of students, teachers, social workers, women and many enthusiastic visitors.
