IMPHAL, August 18: Locals took out a silent protest rally today at Noney, Tamenglong condemning yesterday’s killing of Zeliangrong Students’ Union, Manipur secretary Chunthuigai Kamei.
It may be mentioned that armed cadres suspected to be NSCN (K) cadres had shot dead two individuals identified to be the Zeliangrong Students’ Union, Tamenglong secretary and a suspected NSCN (IM) cadre at Nungkao, Tamenglong district under Tousem PS, yesterday.
The two dead persons have been identified as Chunthuigai Kamei, 35 of Marangching near Noney and Jenao Golmei of Namdailong village, Cachar district, Assam.
The protest rally was participated by members of the Zeliangrong Baudi, Manipur, Inpui Naga Union, All Zeliangrong Students Union (AMN), UNC, NPMHR, ANSAM and several other students.
After the rally, the demonstrators held a meeting at Noney bazar and offered floral tributes to the dead student leader.
During the meeting the demonstrators resolved not to cooperate with the involved organization and to demand the state government to produce the culprits before August 25.
The demonstrators further demanded from the UG groups to refrain from arm conflicts in the Zeliangrong and Inpui region.
Naga UGs should also shun violence and turn towards reconciliation.
