IMPHAL, August 31: The lifeless body of Rabi, 20, son of Pangambam Sangai Singh of Khurai Ningthoubung Leikai who was earlier found dead on August 29 at Chandigarh was cremated today after conducting post mortem.
The body of the BSc second year student studying in Chandigarh was later cremated at the Public crematorium located at sector 25, Chandigarh after conducting the post mortem at the Hospital located at sector 16.
Speaking to IFP, the elder brother of the deceased, Ranjan and a guardian, Romen had earlier requested the concerned authority to perform post mortem, however their request were turned down citing several reasons and formalities to be fulfilled, including the need to be approved by a Medical board, forensic department and the police.
The delay further deteriorated and decomposed the body from the state when it was recovered on 29 August.
However, upon repeated request by the family members and guardian Romen, post mortem was conducted today at around 1:30 pm after taking records in pictures and videos. Family members also tried unsuccessfully to bring home the body, which was not possible due to the “highly decomposed” state over and above the refusal by airline authorities.
Request for a copy of the records in pictures and video by family members were also turned down saying they may have it when a police team from the state of Manipur arrives tomorrow at 11 am. However, when the IFP contacted senior police officials today, there were no official immediate plans to visit Chandigarh.
However when contacted by IFP, the state Home Minister revealed that he had directed the four-member official delegate led by state chief secretary, DS Poonia who is in Delhi now to visit Chandigarh tomorrow itself an enquire regarding the mysterious dead of Rabi.
The home minister instructed Additional Director General of Police, LM Khoute, IPS and principal secretary (home) Dr Suresh Babu who are also at the state capital to visit Chandigarh tomorrow.
