Vehicle lifters arrested

IMPHAL, August 1: City Police Officer in Charge, Rk Tejbir today paraded three vehicle lifters alongwith five two-wheelers recovered from the three at his station before media persons.

The OC identified the three as Yenshengbam Ricky alias Ipa alias Shimanta, 27 son of Y Manihar of Heirangoithong Ahongsabham Leikai, Mayengbam Roshan alias Naocha, 25 son of M Achouba of Khagempalli Pankha and Sorokhaibam Telheiba alias Mahindra, 23 son of Nino of Singjamei Naorem Leikai.

The vehicles are three Honda Activas, one Yamaha Rx-100 and a Bajaj Pulsar.

Speaking to media persons in his office chamber, the police officer said the three vehicle thieves were arrested from the bazar area from separate incidents on July 23 and July 24.

He elaborated that several teams of City police have been on round the clock vigilance in the bazar area both in civvies as well as in uniform since sometime back after several vehicle thefts were reported.

He said Ricky and Roshan were arrested on July 23 evening by a team of the City police led by one SI H Sanjoy from the bazar area.

Acting on the disclosure of the two, Telheiba was arrested the next day from his residence.

The three had further disclosed that their leader operated from Lilong side.

He continued that the police is trying to nab the kingpin of the gang.

The three were produced before the CJM, Imphal West on July 24 where the three had been remanded for nine days of judicial custody.

He continued that the three were further remanded to judicial custody till August 2 by the same court yesterday.

The police officer further appealed to the general public to used double locking for their vehicles while parking in the bazar area.

He further said that owners could come and collect their vehicles after verification.

Meanwhile, a Maruti Alto owner nabbed a man who was trying to steal his car today at Singjamei Meisnam Leikai along the Singjamei Liwa Road.

The Alto owner identified as Soram Suraj of Chingmeirong east said he had come to the area to attend a religious function and had parked his car along the road.

After sometime he came out to take something from his car and found the thief identified as Md Ayup Max, 30 son of (L) Kalim of Lilong Chingkham inside his car.

When asked what he was doing inside the car, Ayup replied that he was trying to find his car which he had lost some days back.

However not satisfied with his answer, he further asked how he came to the area, Ayup replied while pointing towards a red Alto that he had come on it.

As soon as he pointed his figure to the red Alto, the vehicle sped away, Suraj said.

He continued that following the development, he alarmed the locals who came out and nabbed the alleged thief.

Soon after three police personnel of the Singjamei PS came and tried to take him away, which the locals opposed.

The police soon left taking the thief’s Identity card and mobile phone.

Meanwhile, the Ayup was taken to the Chingamakha Community hall and interrogated by the public.

He disclosed that he had come along with one Thounaujam Chaoba of Nambol Bazar and added that they had stolen one Honda Activa, one Honda Dio and a Bajaj Pulsar during July.

He was later picked up by a Singjamei Police team at around 2pm.
