IMPHAL, Sept 12: A school bus ran over a woman killing her at the spot at Langathel Ching Housing Complex, Langol this evening around 5pm.
According to a source, the woman has been identified as Hourinyou Non Nengsin, 55, wife of N Joseph of Nambisha Khullen of Ukhrul district at present staying at the Langathel Ching, Langol.
The bus belonging to the St Savio School, Thangmeiband was coming back after dropping the students when the incident happened.
The bus driver has been identified as Sonpu Kom, 50 son of Leilohar of Ngakhapat, Saikul at present staying at the Sangaiprou Kabui village.
According to sources, soon after the accident, locals gathered around the bus and pelted stones at the bus breaking its windows.
Soon after arriving at the scene, a Lamphel police team lathi-charged the mob.
However when the mob continued to be violent, the police team had to resort to blank firings to control the situation.
Lamphel police have taken the bus in its custody, while the dead body has been deposited at the RIMS morgue.
