IMPHAL, September 18: Even as the PLA has carried out various bomb attacks in the valley areas, encounter deaths have also occurred.
Imphal East commandos in an encounter which took place between Yourabung and Kharasom yesterday at about 9.05 pm resulted in a suspected UG being shot down.
The incident which occurred under Lamlai police station left one dead, the police recovered a kinetic Honda (MN-IN-1990), one 9mm pistol and a handgrenade.
The person is identified as Takhellembam Gobin,22,s/o Dara of Takhel Mamang Leikai. Family members mentioned that the slain individual had surrendered last year and he had left home yesterday with a friend namely Aken at about 5 pm yesterday. He is presently in police custody.It was mentioned by his father in a telephonic conversation with IFP,that he had left his friends with Rs 500 in hand and was asked to purchase liquor from a nearby vendor. He had failed to return and his death was learnt today only.
In another reported encounter incident, there has been heavy exchange of fire between UGs and personnel belonging to the 35 AR at a spot located in between Khumulen and Khongtal range which comes under Chakpikarong Police Station,Chandel district .
Sources mentioned that one UG was shot dead and an AK assault rifle was recovered from the spot with 45 rounds of empty rounds. The body has been brought to JNIMS Mortuary for post mortem. The body will be disposed if not claimed within September 20, it adds.
