Farmers` lament govt inaction

IMPHAL, Oct 24: The Manipur Progressive Farmers’ Association has lamented that the government has failed to keep its promise to provide all possible assistance to the farmers of the state in increasing their winter agricultural products yields.

A statement of the association has said that considering the drought like situation in the state during this year’s monsoon, the state government had announced to support the farmers’ community and fill up the production gap.

The press released further added that though the opportune period for starting winter farming is between the month of October to November second week, the government has failed to take any initiative to supply the required items needed by even though the end of October is approaching.

Further, it has further complained that in case the winter farming is started at the earliest then the farmers’ community would be helpless and there’s would be no benefit at all for cropping in winter.

It has further lamented the government for remaining silent on the issue is of utmost importance for the state. It has further appealed to the government and its authorities to provide the needed items so that the farmers could start their winter cropping.
