First State Assembly sitting observed

IMPHAL, Oct 18: With an object to commemorate ‘the first sitting of the Manipur State Assembly 1948’, leaders of the Manipur People’s Party (MPP) organized a function today at its party complex.

The historical function was presided by party president, S Umananda, advisor and ex-Deputy CM Dr L Chandramani, and former Minister O Joy.

During the observation, general secretary Maniton Magnangm has said that the objective of the observation is to re-remind the people about the history of the state.

He continued that this is the third such observation by the MPP.

Today is a crucial day in the history of Manipur, as the first sitting of State Assembly was held on this day in 1948, and the party is pleased to observe the event even though it happened 64 year ago, said Dr L Chandramani in his speech. He added that during the reign of Maharaja Budhachandra, RK Priyobrata was nominated the first CM by the king and the first state Assembly was held on October 18, 1948 with 54 representative of the state.

During the function, former MLA, O Joy expressed that the meaning and interpretation of Democracy may vary from person to person and place to place according to their judgement, but the most admiring part of democracy is “Liberty and Equality”.
