Helmets rule in CCP

By Our CCpur Correspondent
LAMKA, Oct 17: The Churachandpur district police today announced that by November 1 it will be mandatory for all two-wheeler riders to wear helmet and that hawkers in the vicinity of the road will be evicted.

Speaking to the media at his office, the Superintendent of Police, Churachandpur, who is also in-charge of traffic in the district, Mangkhogin Haokip said that by November 1 this new regulation will be enforced strictly and further added that any first time offender will be fined Rs 100 which will increase to Rs 200 and Rs 300 for any followup offences.

The SP has appeal to the public to comply with the new rule since it is for the good of the general public that the drive has been announced.

Haokip also told this correspondent that the police force in the district is short of manpower and elaborated further that even though there is a need of more than 800 personnel the district police at present has only 442 personnel which at times leads to inconveniences.

It may be recalled that the police in CCpur district is aided by 600 personnel of Village Defence Force which somewhat minimises the need of the district police but does not solve the problem as Churachandpur is the largest district of the state.
