IMPHAL, October 12: The ever increasing water levels in various parts of the city continue to leave the population of the state in doubt and fear besides creating havoc in traffic at some major points of Imphal city with flood waters restricting movements and giving obstruction to the commuters.

On the other hand, the ever-increasing rise in river flows among some of the major rivers in the state continues to increase when reports last came in.

Sources from the control room located at Irrigation and Flood Control Department, IFCD Nambol stated Nambol rivers have gone above and beyond the warning levels- 772.500 m and reached upto the highest flood level recorded today to be 773.600 m.

Sources further pointed out water runs close to danger all along the banks of the Nambol river stretching along the Nambol Awang Leikai locality. Alert is on and preparatory measures are being enforced to ensure and prevent any life threatening situation from the ever changing scenarios of these mighty rivers.

Flood control room located at Thoubal also reported water rising and flowing above danger level and still on the rise.

The danger level is marked at 778.315 m while the currently flow of the river is above 780.115 m.

The Control room located at their head office of IFCD also stated the levels of certain other major rivers running in the state which may pose a threat or danger to the residents located at the banks of these rivers as the water in these areas continue to flow higher and more dangerous every moment.

According to the sources, the Imphal river which ran at 783.525 m yesterday has today gone up to 785.725 m crossing the danger level once again. Nambul river is already above the danger level since yesterday counting at 781.375 m and today it reaches 782.575 m.

Same is the case for Iril river and Lilong river, with both the rivers rising levels since yesterday and running a 785.150 m and 780.780 m as per today’s reading when it reports last came into office.

The situation remained ever grimed as rain continues to pour without any gap right at the roots of these rivers located at the hills and remote areas. Official recorded the rainfall since yesterday and it continue to rise and most part of the states where the readings are conducted.

Some of the rainfall readings recorded this morning and their respective areas were, Raj Bhavan 44 mm, Lamphelpat 47 mm, Kangpokpi 27 mm, Saikul 22 mm and Litan recorded a total of 58 mm.
