IMPHAL, October 29: Celebrated singer, drama artist and celluloid film actor Khundrakpam Joykumar popularly known as “Khun Joykumar” is hospitalized presently as his health is deteriorating fast. Family members fear the worst.
IFP went to Catholic Medical Centre located at Koirengei where the famed artist is being treated intensively. He is not able to recognize people in his present state and has become incoherent. He is said to be in a nearly comatose state.
He is being administered glucose intravenously as oral feeding has not been possible since some time back.
Sarungbam Biren (Joykumar’s cousin brother) said that the artist is being admitted at CMC Hospital since September 4 last at the first floor of ‘D’block at room number 6. Doctor Diamond and Shanti have been treating him since.
Yesterday, at around 2 pm, a bottle of blood was required and given as Joykumar’s health became of concern. But even despite the infusion, his health has not shown improvement.
It was mentioned that his heath became critically serious since yesterday. He is not able to talk, recognize family members and elapsed into a near comatose state. His blood pressure is measured as 130/90 but family members voiced that there is not much room for improvement.
Queried on how the artist came into such a serious state, S Biren said that Joykumar was undergoing a deep depression as the artist had felt on being neglected by his family members. He has refused to eat and even drink due to his depression and on an occasion had even attempted suicide. On one occasion, the artist had flung himself from a building and was treated at Shija hospital. Doctor Lenin had treated him for 45 days there.
At present, only the artist’s sister Khundrakpam Sovabati, S Biren and his wife Lilabati are looking after him at the hospital. The singer is a bachelor. Khun Joykumar is nearly 63 years old and born to late Khundrakpam Gulamjat Meitei of Kwakeithel Moirangpurel Leikai. He is the second eldest among eight sibling.
The artist had starred as an artist/ singer at acclaimed dramas inclusive of Ngabongkhao, Nirupama and Ashi Leibaktagei Hallakapa. His songs , “Kumgei Nongju Lakpada”, “Enae Magei Mapao”,”Heibok Chingsang Maming ta Ngairae” are still evergreen today.
