Oppn parties to meet Governor over Loktak scam

IMPHAL, October 17: Major political parties in the state have started consultations on the enfolding Loktak Lake scam and the OBC status of the Speaker Thokchom Lokeshwar’s wife and representatives of the parties may call on the state Governor in the coming days, according to reports.

A meeting of the major opposition parties were held today to discuss the two issues and to chalk out a strategy for taking up the issues centrestage.

An opposition leader who was a party to the consultative meeting said, the opposition consultations began yesterday and it will continue till tomorrow.

Sources said, tomorrow’s meeting will take place at the office of Janata Dal (United) at Babupara at 3 pm.

Besides state Trinamool chief Kim Gangte, today’s meeting was attended by representatives of BJP, CPI, CPI (M) and JD (U).

The meeting had also discussed the Inner Line Permit issue, but a decision on it was deferred as the Loktak scam and the Assembly appointment issue was considered more urgent, the sources said.

It added, the meeting also decided to collect more information and documents with regard to the two issues before taking a final decision.

The opposition parties might draw the attention of the Prime Minister, Governor and Speaker of Lok Sabha on the two controversies, reports add.

Meanwhile, the MPP leader O Joy Singh has denied any knowledge of the opposition meeting.
