Poverty eradication day held

IMPHAL, October 17: The International Day for the Eradication of Poverty was observed today at the conference hall of Hueiyen Lanpao office at Sega road organized by the Women Environment Protection Force (WEPF).

The function was attended by Professor Dr N Iboton singh, Dean, College of Agriculture, Central Agriculture University, Ng Bimolata, president, WEPF and P Devakanta Singh, NGO representative as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.

Addressing the keynote, Secretary of WEFP, said that Women Environment Protection Force (WEPF) was established for the welfare of the society. Their main objective is to eradicate poverty from the state. 

Speaking at the function, Prof Dr N Iboton Singh said that he was excited when he heard about organizing such type of observation in the state for the welfare of the society.

He further said that our state lacks in work culture as we depend on other states for food and other essential items.

The state’s concerned department had also organized many awareness programmes to help improve their skills of the farmers for more production of agriculture, Horticulture, fisheries products, he said.

He also urged women farmers to take part in such type of awareness program organized by the government in the future to help improve their farming skills.

As we cannot established many industries in the state due to huge shortage of power supply, people need to depend more on agricultural products. We also need to have a work culture to eradicate poverty from our state, he added.
