Breast cancer detection camp held

IMPHAL, November 1: A free cervical and breast cancer detection cum awareness camp was held today at Khwairamband Nupi Keithel No 3 (Panthoibi Ima Keithel) organizd by Lions club of Leimarol Imphal, Lions Clubs International.   

The function was attended by Home Minister Gaikhangam and MLA Kh Joykisan as chief guest and guest of honour respectively.

Addressing the function Home Minister Gaikhangam extended his appreciation on the social service initiative taken up by Lions Club.

Such one day awareness camp is just the beginning towards educating laymen. He personally feels that easy methods should be adopted to make people understand easily, the Minister further said.

Quoting “Prevention is better than cure” he said, timely consultation with doctors is the best policy for better living. We should strictly follow doctor’s advice if we want to remain healthy. Healthy mind means better society. Precious resource is human resource and so we need to develop it, he added.

Chairperson, Cancer Detection Project Dr T Bilashini Devi said, about 250 persons participated the camp and the club is also planning a mega health camp very soon.

Dr Th Bidhumukhi, Professor, Department of OBG, RIMS, spoke on the topic “Cervical Cancer”; Deepak, Assistant Professor, Department of Surgery, JNIMS, spoke on the topic “Breast Cancer”; Dr Th Shetal Devi, Senior Resident, Department of Pathology, RIMS, spoke on the topic “PAP Smear” respectively.
