IMPHAL, Nov 10: The All Manipur Nupi Marup today called a press conference at the IrawatBhawan announcing the theme for the 73rd anniversary of the NupiLan.
Speaking to media persons, president S Sarojini said this year’s theme for the anniversary will be “Crime against women and corruption” and a mass rally will be undertaken.
She continued, meetings will also be held on the recent spate in crime against women in the state and a resolution of the nupimarup will also be taken during the said meetings, she continued.
General secretary, Ksh Tama Devi said even though the government has already approved a policy on facilities to be provided to woman during childbirth, it is yet to be acted upon.
She continued due to certain issues including economic problems, several women have become commercial sex workers, however the state is still to act upon the facilities provided under the Immortal traffic prevention Act, 1956.
The state government should hand over more power to the Manipur Commission for Women and empower the commission more.
Even though every locality has women organizations, crime against women has only increased, she said.
