Bandh called off

IMPHAL, December 4: The state government has directed the District Magistrate, Thoubal district to order a Magisterial Enquiry into the alleged killing of Yanglem Bisheshwar alias Naoba and Huirongbam Manichandra both of Thoubal Wangmataba.   

Following which, the indefinite bandh called by the JAC formed against the alleged killing of Yanglem Bisheshwar alias Naoba, has been called off.   

“Representatives of the JAC have today called on Chief Minister O Ibobi for another round of talk, during which the CM has given his assurance to conduct a magisterial inquiry into the two incidents,” said a release of the JAC. 

“Accordingly, the JAC has called off its bandh along National Highway 2. However, sit-in-protests will be staged at community level until the culprits are booked,” the release added.

Meanwhile, the state government has instructed the concern officials to hold a magisterial enquiry in the alleged killing of Yanglem Bisheshwar Singh alias Naoba, 32, of Thoubal Wangmataba Sorok Maning and subsequent killing of Huirongbam Manichandre, 65, of Thoubal Wangmataba.    

The report of the said enquiry has to be submitted within the period of the one month and without further extension of time, added the order.

It may be recalled that Naoba was found death with bullet holes on Nov 30 morning and subsequently Manichandra sustained bullet injuries in the police firing, while he was protesting against the killing of Naoba on Dec 2 evening, and succumbed the next morning at Shija Hospital.

Family members have claimed the two bodies today, after post mortem examinations conducted yesterday at JNIMS.
