IMPHAL, December 8: AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi will be arriving here at Tulihal Airport at 10:50 am on December 10 to inaugurate a state level convention of ‘local elected bodies of local self government,’ at the Hapta Kangjeibung.
The event is organized by the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee.
Announcing the arrival of the Congress leader, MPCC president Gaikhangam called a press conference at the MPCC office today.
The MPCC president said that during Rahul Gandhi’s visit the implementation of the 16 points flagship programmes of UPA in the state will also be discussed.
Before attending the inaugural programme, the AICC general secretary will interact with the Congress leaders of the state at the same venue.
300 Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee Seva Dals will be honouring the AICC general secretary with a guard of honour on his arrival.
The Dy CM further appealed the general public not to create any obstacle on the day by calling bandh or blockade and to welcome the Congress leader with open arms.
Rahul has only two hours time to spend with us and if time permits, he will interact with NSUI and Youth Congress members, the Dy CM added.
When asked whether Rahul’s visit to the state is to gain political mileage for Congress in the state, the Dy CM declared “No”.
Meanwhile, state Congress workers numbering around 300 from Keirao Block Congress Committee will take part in welcoming AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi during his visit to the state on December 10, in the absence of a Congress MLA from Keirao Assembly Constituency.
This was stated by leaders of Keirao Block Congress Committee speaking at the felicitation function of its member Md Manir Khan who has been recently appointed as an MPCC member.
It may be mention here that after the only member of MPCC from Keirao Block Md Allauddin Khan died, the member post had been lying vacant.
The felicitation function of Md Manir Khan was held at his residence at Keirao Makting Awang Leikai and was attended by Keirao Block Congress Committee members and people of the area.
The function was presided by Keirao Block Congress Committee president Alhaj Md Allauddin and district president K Jagat attended as chief guest.
NNN adds: Chief Minister Ibobi today inspected the Hapta Kangjeibung beautification work being taken up for the December Manipur visit of AICC secretary Rahul Gandhi. Ibobi appealed all sections of the society to participate at the public rally to be addressed by Rahul at Hapta Kangjeibung. He also appealed to all to arrive at the venue at 9:30 am of the same day.
During the inspection visit, the Chief Minister was accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, Social Welfare minister AK Mirabai, Works minister Dr Ratankumar, Parliamentary Secretary of Youth Affairs and Sports, M Prithiviraj, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj minister, Francis Ngajokpa, Parliamentary Secretary of Tribal Development, Victor Keishing and Parliamentary Secretary of Information and Public Relations, K Meghachandra.
