IMPHAL, December 3: The Directorate of Tribal Affairs and Hills also organized the day at the Kuki Inn attended by the state Deputy Chief Minister, Gaikhangam who is also the Minister of Tribal Affairs and Hills as the chief guest with Parliamentary Secretary Victor Keishing as president and Saikul MLA Yamthang Haokip as special guest.
As part of the observation, the state Deputy Chief Minister also handed over wheelchairs and hearing aids to several differently abled beneficiaries.
Speaking at the observation, he said that he will consult with the state Chief Minister to appoint a separate Commissioner for the differently abled persons under the Disability Act.
He continued the state government has taken up several schemes for the welfare of the differently abled persons and continue to do so.
He said the state has a three percent reservation policy for the differently abled in recruitment of any state departments.
The state will never violate the rights of a bonafide differently abled person, he continued.
Continuing his speech, the Dy CM said, every person in the world has a disability while on the other hand, every differently abled persons has a specific talent of their own.
He further appealed to all to live peacefully.
Meanwhile, All Tribal Disabled Union, Manipur president Momo Tangtanga urged the government to increase the monthly disable pension.
Major highlights of the observation include performances from several differently abled artistes of different districts of the state.
The day was also observed at Oinam, Bishnupr district organised by the district Social Welfare department in collaboration with Spastic Society, Manipur.
