MOREH, December 14: Preparation for the ASEAN Car rally which will be entering the state through the international border town and the eastern gate of India`s Look East policy is underway in full speed with filling up of potholes along the National Highway 2 Moreh Imphal stretch being taken up.

The car rally which commenced on November 20 and which will continue till December 20 passing through 8 countries will enter the state on December 15.

Even though black topping along the NH stretch is almost done, the stretch from Lokchao to Moreh is still in a bad condition.

The main concern at the moment is whether the government will continue repairing of the road even after the ASEAN car rally. The government had taken up similar filling up of pothole exercise earlier also during a previous edition of the ASEAN Car rally and Indo-Myanmar Car rally.

Eight years after the previous ASEAN Car rally had passed through the state along the same highway; there has been no improvement in the condition of the Highway.

Meanwhile, locals have appealed to the state government to communicate to the concern contractors and agencies working along the highway to accelerate their work and improve the road condition.

On the other hand, AMSU Chandel District Committee president, N Nabakumar has said that in case the government fails to improve and impair the roads in Moreh town by December 31, than the student body will initiate various agitations in collaboration with other like-minded civil societies.
