HCBAM meets state Law Minister

IMPHAL, Dec 4: The agitating High Court Bar Association, Manipur met with the state Law Minister regarding its demands.

According to the HCBAM executive member Advocate Khaidem Mani, the meeting with the Law Minister Th Devendra Singh commenced at 11 am at the office chamber of the Minister.

He said the association was represented by its president N Kumarjit, secretary M Roshni Piba, sr advisor RK Nokulsana, himself and advocate Raju.

Further according to the advocate, the association representatives apprised the state law Minister that a team of the association had also visited New Delhi recently and had met Justice AK Patnaik on November 27.

The state Law Minister was also apprised that the team had also submitted a memorandum to the Union Law and Justice Minister Dr Ashwini Kumar.

The Law Minister was also apprised that when Manipur has a quota of four judges, the state has only two and on top of that a process is on to choose three more judges from other states of the North East region. The Minister was also informed about the shortages that a separate High Court of the state will suffer even after fulfilling the four quotas for the state.

Considering all this, the association has demanded from the concern authorities including the Union Minister of Law and Justice to appoint five judges for a separate Manipur High Court, the advocate informed.

He further told IFP that soon after listening to the grievances of the association, the state Law Minister immediately called the state Chief Minister and informed the same and urged him to take the association’s grievances to the central leaders.

The Chief Minister had assured to urged the central leaders on the same, he said.
