IMPHAL, Dec 19: A man was found shot dead at the Orange Festival venue Polo ground, Tamenglong on the intervening night of November 18 and 19.
The man identified as Boudiyang Panmei, 36 son of P Aran of Green Hills, Tamenglong P VI was found with bullet injuries from the ground at around 12:20am November 19 just after the Orange festival concluded.
The victim’s wife Kiuhomliu is said to have opened a stall at the festival.
Sources informed that after the end of the Miss Orange Queen while the stall owners and the organizers were clearing up, there was a sound of gun shot.
It is also learnt that on hearing the gun shot, Kiuhomliu ran out to see what it was and found her husband lying unconscious.
Boudiyang was setting garbage on fire near the gate when he was shot at, sources informed.
He was rushed to the district hospital however was declared brought dead.
The place is about 1km north west of Tamenglong PS. The police have taken up a case on this regard.
Meanwhile, it is also learnt that a 9mm empty case was also recovered from the site.
The dead body has been handed over to the family after post mortem was conducted at the JNIMS.
Sources also informed that a 9mm projectile was found lodged in his gall bladder. He was hit on his left side of his back.
Boudiyang is survived by his wife and daughter.
Meanwhile, locals of Tamenglong bazar convened a public meeting at Tamenglong Bazar against the killing this morning around 9am and demanded clarification from all concern at the earliest.
Shops at the bazar area also remained closed for the day against the killing.
