Police fires tear gases to control mob

IMPHAL, December 20: Police fired tears gas to control a mob at Kiyamgei leading to the injury of a boy who was part of the protest.

The incident happened today during the course of a public meeting held at Kiyamgei Muslim Awang Leikai Indega ground in the presence of Md Salam, Keirao zilla parisad member regarding the attempt to kidnap of a young girl and leaving her unconscious after smashing her head with a big stone by three youths and led by one youth from the same locality.

Speaking to media persons at the sideline of the meeting, the father of the girl Abdul Kaheir (59) of  said, “Around 7 pm yesterday after dinner, my daughter who had not eaten as yet went out to answer`s nature`s call but failed to come back inside the house. After 20 minutes passed, family members started to search for her. During the course of the search, an auto driver  passing by our residence informed us that one big form which looked like a human body was laying on the road side of his neighbor`s house.” He added that when family members rushed to the area, they found his daughter laying unconscious on the road side, after which she was brought back to the house.

He further recounted that when his daughter regained consciousness, she narrated the incident to her mother. ” When she was returning back, 3 men came inside the gate and grabbing hold of her put hand on her mouth and tried to take her away on a Bike.  There was a tussle but she was not able to shout out as her mouth was covered with a hand. She was threatened with a small arm and warned that she would be killed if she cried for attention.” He further claimed that her daughter had identified er assailants as  Nisha Ahmad@ Nahamacha son of Abdul Kalam of Kiyamgei Muslim Awang Leikai Ward number 1 along with two men who had masks on. During the incident, the men twisted his daughter`s hand, thrown on to the roadside by the Nisha Ahmad who picked up a big stone from nearby, thereafter smashing her head after which, she fell unconscious. When local neighbors went to the accussed`s house to get a clarification of the incident, the accused`s father Abdul Salam turned violent and started a fight with the person.

A written complaint regarding the incident has been made at Irilbung Police Station but the accused remains absconding.

A 3 point resolution calling for the accused family member to apologies to the victim family`s and to the locals of the area said that the boy`s family should give a compensations of 3 lakh fifty thousand rupee and if the family member of the accused failed to do so, their entire family would not be allowed to settled in the area anymore.

Late in the evening, some angry local women and youths of the area stormed into the residence of the accused but a team of police stopped them from dismantling the house. In an attempt to bring into control,  police personal fired tear gas to disperse the angry mob during which, one boy was hit by the tear gas on his left leg ankle.
