Remand of victim is not reasonable, says Thoibi

IMPHAL, December 30: A woman who has been allegedly raped has been detained by police and remanded for 5 days.This was informed by Thoibi Sorokhaibam, a social worker living in the locality of the woman in a press meet at Manipur Press Club today. She further that if the CJM Thoubal do not give a proper reason for the detentionof the woman, then agitations will be launched. “How and why a victim woman is being detained in the police station? Such is first time in the history,” she said.

Mention may be made here that an Ex-Rifleman of MR is said to have allegedly raped a young married woman aged 18, on December 27 night at Wangjing Hodamba Mamang under Thoubal Police Station. The husband of the victim, a resident of Wangjing Awang Leikai said his wife was called by the police yesterday for interrogation and detained in the police station in order to produce her before the court. He claimed that she has been remanded for 5 days in the police custody and is being beaten up.
