IMPHAL, January 17: Addressing a press conference at the FRIENDS office at Keishampat today, a 31 year old local woman of Kongba Kshetri Leikai has charged her husband of mentally and physically harassing her for over 10 years. Rojina (name changed) said she was married to a non-local identified as Ramesh Kumar Gupta (47) son of Dwarka Prashad of Bihar, at present staying at Paona bazaar in November 1999. She claimed that she was not even allowed to step outside from the house or even to go to her parental home for any of the traditional and religious rituals. Alleging that her husband was involved in other extra-marital relationships, Rojina claimed that she was turned out of the house after she found her husband red handed with her own sister-in-law. Her three children were handed to her at first but after 3-4 days of staying at her parental home, her husband took them away with him she maintained, adding that when she went to his house to meet them, she was told that they had been sent to Dimapur.
Adding that she had received divorce papers in June last, Rojina alleged that her husband has absconded, leaving all his belongings and added that she suspects her sister-in-law to be living with him since she is yet to return after she left in March. Rojina further appealed for help in getting justice and for giving befitting punishment to her husband according to law.
Meanwhile Sapamcha Jadumani, President FRIENDS and Convenor of joint co-ordination committee on liner line permit in Manipur said that such type of incident is very unfortunate. He further said that Ramesh kumar Gupta should come to the FRIENDS office at the earliest with the proper knowledge of the public and clarify regarding all the allegation against him.
