Guardian group asks Mission schools not to go ahead with entrance tests

IMPHAL, January 23: All Manipur Student’s Guardian Association (AMSGA) today convened a press conference at its office at Palace Compound today noon regarding the entrance test for school admissions being conducted by the Catholic and Missionary schools for elementary classes on 28 January for this year’s academic session.

Speaking to the media at the press conference,  S Sumati Secretary AMSGA said that catholic and missionary schools in the state are registered as catering to minority communities and sections whereas, general class students are studying together in schools such as Little flower school, Nirmalabas school, Don Bosco school, and St. Joseph school.

She further said that it is very unfortunate that the catholic and missionary schools have made announcements for conducting an entrance test for admissions for elementary classes on 28 January 2013 and asked what type of question are they going to ask to minor children in the entrance test. “Student bodies of the state have already banned such schools from conducting the entrance test for admissions into the elementary class level in the year 2011 and students had been admitted following the lottery bases system ,” she said.

She further demand not to conducted the propose entrance test in these school and asked to do the admission system in lottery or on a first come first basis.  “If these schools conducts the entrance tests then they will be treated as a school who are against the society of the state. If any untoward incident happens regarding the matter, then the school authority have to take all the responsibility,” Sumati warned.

She further appealed to BOSEM to look after these schools and asked the state government to give a clear clarification reading the matter.

Appealing to the state commission for Child Right to do their work fully for the betterment of the children of the state, Sumati said that it is very unfortunate that the commission has remained silent in such a situation where the minor students are going through entrance tests to get admissions.
