Republic Day at Jiribam

JIRIBAM, January 27:  The 64th Republic Day celebration was held at the Jiribam Sub-Division amidst tight security organized by the sub-division’s administration at the Jiribam Government Higher Secondary School playground.

Additional Deputy Commissioner, Y Iboyaima Singh who was the chief guest hoisted the Indian National Flag and inspected the parade.

Addressing the function, the Addl DC said Jiribam will be upgraded to a district soon for which the state government has started its preparations. “The upgradation of the Jiribam Sub-Division to a full-fledged district is in the hands of the people of Jiribam,” he said.

He said some new offices, where construction has been completed will be inaugurated on February 7, adding that Jiribam is considered not only as the Western Gate of Manipur but also as the “Second Dimapur”.

Six contingents and two band parties took part in the March past with Md Tomba Asst Commandant, 5th Manipur Rifles as parade commander.

A team of the Manipur Fire Service, Jiribam also conducted a mock drill demonstration as part of the function.

The Republic Day celebration was attended by officials of the 22 Assam Rifles, CRPF, IRB and Jiribam Police Addle SP and other public leaders, NGOs among others.
