ATDUM sets Feb 10 deadline for its demands

IMPHAL, February 1: The All Tribal Disabled Union, Manipur called a press conference at its Nagaram office setting a deadline of February 10 for the government to act out on its series of demands put through a memorandum.

Speaking to media persons, Spokesperson Momo Tantanga said the union had submitted its memorandum on January 22 and in case the government failed to fulfill the demands by February 10, then the union will initiate its agitations. However the course of the agitation is yet to be chalked out, he said.

The demands include establishment/ construction of a special school with hostel facility at a tribal district for the differently abled tribal students as per the provision of the Disabilities Act 1995; to set up/construct a special vocational training centre with hostel facility for the differently abled; decentralization of issuing of the disability centre; appointment of differently abled ST candidate in the graduate teachers of RMSA; increase of disability scholarship, unemployment allowance, financial assistance and conveyance allowance of disabled government employees; appointment of Channelising Agency of National Handicapped Finance Development Corporation; constitution of state co-ordination committee and state executive committee under the provision of PWD, Act 1995; at least 3% of state Plan Budget allocation for persons with disabilities; establishment of independent department for the welfare of the persons with disabilities; 50% concession rate of bus fare for people with disabilities and benefi
ts under PDS; and appointment of a disability Commissioner.
