BJP demands formation of Narcotic bureau in state

IMPHAL, February 27: The state has become a transit route for drugs and several state heads and high ranking officials of the state are involved in the drug business, alleged Th Chaoba, president BJP, Manipur Pradesh.

The BJP conducted a sit in protest against the surfacing of several drug cases in the state.

the state unit president was speaking on the sidelines of the protest to media persons.

Alleging that state MLAs are involve in the business, the state head of the BJP demanded  that the government should formed a Narcotic Bureau in the state at the earliest to take action against the culprit.

The sit in protest was held under the theme “Action against the Psychotropic Drug-Business”.

He further said that involvement of high-profile-people in the Psychotropic Drug- Business in the state has become a regular issue.

He continued that a PRO of the Army of P.I.B. Defence Wing, Col Ajay Chaudhary and Ngairangbam Brojendro Singh, Assistant Manager of IndiGo Airline have been apprehended and son of an MLA has been nabbed by the police.

He continued that two of the six arrested at Palel are allegedly close relatives of a senior government official and an MLA.

Eyebrows were raised when Special Investigation Unit of Imphal West Police Station was disbanded following its seizure of contraband drugs from the Tulihal Airport.

He continued that the multi-crore Psychotropic drug-market may, in the course of time, languish the sporting youth who are in the playing arena and thus the image of Manipur`s sports-culture may be tarnished sooner or later.

The rot may set in the youth which is a chunk of the State population because of drugs` influence in their health and moralities, and it may accrue to gross and ghastly crime against human kind. The people of the State may be shameful, if it has to emanate the drug menace from the State to the other parts of the globe.

He further said the Army, Paramilitary or Police who have to defend the people as well as to preserve the sanctity of law and order, if they are involved in such a drug-racket, it is not only unbecoming of them, but also it makes them detrimental to the society.

He blame the govt seems to be indolent to take up the pressing issue and thereby casting a slur that there may be a racket among Politicians, Defence Personnel, Police, Airport Authority and Drug-barons.

The likely chemical warfare has to save the youth and sportspersons of this Powerhouse of Sports, he said.

The memorandum was submitted to Governor of Manipur; prompt investigation may be made to book the culprits. In this regard, the cases may be handed over to the Narcotic Bureau,Govt. of India for the purpose of taking up immediate action; an independent body may be instituted to investigate the recent drug hauls at Pallet and others; S.I.U. or otherwise an investigation unit of the kind may be urgently set up over and above the existing NAB team; the culprits may be subjected to befitting punishment as per law of the land.
