LAMKA, February 27: The police of Churachabdpur had to resort to firing tear gas shells at the Torbung area of Churachandpur District today as Kuki State Demand Committee bandh supporters, mostly women blocked the Tiddim Road stretch of the National Highway 150.

The police fired at least two tear gas shells to disperse the bandh supporters.

The supporters however moved from the place and started blocking the road in the next village.

The firing of tear gas shells occurred around 8:30am at Torbung village which is about 5 kms from CCpur police station. However, no casualties were reported from the fracas that ensued.

The police team was led by the OC of the Churachandpur police station, LV Pau Tunglut.

The police officer said since the protestors were mostly women, the police called in its women personnel and managed to ensure the resumation of vehicular flow along the Highway.
